degrees 52 minutes 53 seconds west longitude
Located on South Leavitt Road in Leavittsburg less than a half mile from
West Market Street, Canoe City MetroPark is lined by the slow moving
waters of the Mahoning River. The 18-acre park has a rich history as a popular
recreation spot from the early 20th century to today. The park is
adjacent to Ohio Bicycle Route J.

Activities & Amenities
Canoe City MetroPark provides easy access for canoeing and kayaking on the
Mahoning River. Other activities include fishing, nature
observation and hiking on short trails along the river. Several picnic
tables and grills are available. Portable restrooms are in the park from
April through October. Handicapped parking spots are available in the
paved parking area.

Plans for
the Future
The Trumbull County MetroParks board is considering the installation of
fishing facilities for disable visitors, a pavilion and a canoe/kayak
portage around the dam. Plans depend on acquiring adequate funding.
Canoe City MetroPark: Possible dam removal project
At the MetroParks regular board meeting on December 6, 2007,
representatives from Ohio
Department of Transportation District 4 presented information about
the possible removal of the Leavittsburg Dam at Canoe City MetroPark. The
board took no action on Ohio Department of Transportation's proposal at
that time. If the board decides to move forward with the ODOT proposal,
public meetings will be held as part of the process of determining if the
dam should be removed. A decision by the board to move forward with ODOT's
proposal does not necessarily mean the dam will be removed; studies and
public meetings held by ODOT will determine if the dam should ultimately
